Dear Vaurien sailors,
it took a long time but finally the Vaurien Class Rules in the new ISAF standard format have been approved!!
Briefly, these are the main differences:
-Format - The Rules comply with the new ISAF standard format in order to facilitate the task of every measurer, even those who are not familiar with the Vaurien Class because theformat is the same as for the other classes.
The new format also implies that every single part (hull, sails, rig, appendages ...) can be measured separately and only at an event they have to be measured together.
-IHC - "In House Certification" is the ISAF programme aimed at simplifying the measures. An authorized IHC manufacturer, will be able to measure and certify his own production. ISAF or a certifying authority will supervise and check the manufacturers to grant that any certified item made and self-measured complies with the Rules.
-Diagrams - The Rules now include the Diagrams in order to better explain the measures and to have all the data in one document.
-Templates - Template drawings are also included in the Rules.
-Sailplan - The sailplan has been changed one year ago. In the new version a few mistakes have been redressed and the "main sail half width" has been added.
-Hull - The hull minimum weight has been reduced to 70kg. There is no boat minimum weight. The hull bottom has to be completely fair without any inflection (it has to be convex).
-Appendages - C,enterboard and rudder have the same maximum outline as before but the 10mm maximum tolerance from the outline has been removed. The rudder can be fixed to the hull also reversed, fore side aft.
-A few other minor points have been changed and especially the wording has been adjusted to make the Rules clearer and to avoid as much as possible any doubts.
We ask you to read them attentively and let us know if there is any error, mistake or doubtful point. We will address them immediately at the next summer meeting in Bizerte.
