The International Vaurien Class has a long standing history of boats built by amateurs. In spite of being originally being designed for industrial production the hard-chined hull of a Vaurien makes the amateur construction in plywood very easy.
The interested amateur builder shall follow the following steps:
1. The prospective amateur builder asks IVCA that he intend to build a Vaurien.
2. IVCA secretariat communicates that IVCA is pleased that he wishes to build a
Vaurien and sends the whole necessary up to date documentation (i.e. Plans, Class
Rules, Measurement Form, Diagrams, etc.) to the amateur who shall pay for the cost.
If the amateur wishes to receive the whole documentation for amateur-building, he
can ask AsVaurien France (as-vaurien@wanadoo.fr) and pay the documentation.
3. The amateur shall buy an ISAF plaque to be fixed on the prototype and pay for the
royalties to IVCA. The plaque shall be asked to IVCA treasurer (franz.onder@fries.at)
to which their cost as well the royalties shall be paid for.
4. The amateur shall build a prototype and send to IVCA plans and pictures of it as well
as a description of the construction process including details of all the building
materials utilized (Building Specification Plan).
5. IVCA Technical Committee asks a Vaurien Class International Measurer to measure
the prototype and report on the result: measurement costs shall be paid for by the
amateur.
6. If minor defects are found, the amateur shall correct them before a new measurement
is made by the same International Measurer.
7. When all measurements prove to be in compliance with the Class Rules, a Certificate
can be issued by the National Association.
